Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed the development of joint co-operation between Egypt and the African Development Bank (AfDB), and expressed his appreciation for the bank’s role in supporting development sectors in the African continent, especially in light of the growing economic challenges at the international level.
The President’s remarks came during his meeting on Wednesday with President of the African Development Bank Group Akinwumi A. Adesina and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdullah and other CBE officials, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said.
President Sisi said during the meeting that Egypt looks forward to boosting cooperation with the Bank during the coming period in various fields, within the framework of the objectives of the joint country strategy between the two sides.
For his part, the President of the African Development Bank praised the Egyptian development experience during the past few years, describing it as a source of inspiration for African peoples across the continent. He added that the Egyptian people and their political leadership showed a remarkable ability to rise rapidly and realise many important achievements.
In this context, he valued Egypt’s achievements in several development sectors, especially electricity, water treatment and reuse sectors, and the development of unplanned residential areas, as luminous examples and models of what has been achieved in development process that benefits large segments of the population.
Adesina also expressed his pleasure that Egypt would host the annual meetings of the Bank Group in Sharm El-Sheikh next May. He noted that this year’s meetings will focus on discussing ways to encourage continental economic integration as well as mechanisms for bridging the climate financing gap in the African continent.
In this regard, the President expressed Egypt’s full support for the Bank and its annual meetings, stressing Egypt’s constant keenness to promote African interests in all forms and at all levels.
