Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for sustained provision of the financial resources deemed necessary for developing the communications and information technology sector and its infrastructure, given the great importance that the state attaches to this sector as one of the pillars of comprehensive and sustainable development.
The President’s remarks came during his meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, the president said that these efforts to develop the ICT sector contribute to the realisation of the strategy for transformation to a digital society as well as to the state’s plans for financial inclusion and the provision of the best and latest services to citizens.
The president also followed up on strategic projects of the communications and information technology sector, which aim to participate in implementing the state’s plan to achieve digital transformation, automate government services and consolidate the digital economy, consequently augmenting efforts to advance development in Egypt.
In directives he gave during the meeting, President Sisi urged paying due attention to discovering and refining the brilliant minds given that outstanding human resources constitute an asset to the state in achieving digital transformation.
The aspired effort in this direction, the President added, comes within the framework of investment in human cadres including through the provision of training and qualification programmes and capacity building in line with the latest requirements of the labor market.
For his part, Communications and Information Technology Minister Talaat gave a presentation of the executive position of a number of projects being implemented by the ministry in the communications and information technology sector, especially with regard to strengthening the government’s efforts for digital transformation.
Such efforts, Minister Talaat added, included the drawing up of a strategy on artificial intelligence, launching the “Egypt Digital Platform” initiative, designing the unified service card and supporting the health insurance system development project.
