President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting on Wednesday with Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, and CEO of the South Red Sea Shipyard (SRSS) Eng. Moustafa el-Degishi.
During the meeting, the president was briefed on the developments in the Suez Canal’s navigation movement, in light of the current challenges in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab region. Ways to minimise the negative impacts of these challenges onshipping in the Suez Canal were also addressed to ensure the sustainability and stability of supply chains and the movement of global trade, the Presidency Spokesman said.
SCA Chairman presented the Authority’s efforts to support shipping agencies at times of crisis, via implementing multiple mechanisms to reduce the effects of the current situation in the Red Sea. Ways to raise the efficiency of navigational and maritime services in the Suez Canal were also reviewed, as a new package of navigational services were introduced to ships crossing the canal in normal and emergency conditions alike. These services include maritime rescue operations, and ship repair and maintenance at the SCA’s shipyards.
Rabei also displayed the SCA’s ongoing efforts to establish a global center for ship repair and maintenance, in partnership with major international companies.
President Sisi followed up on the latest developments for modernizing the Egyptian fishing fleet in partnership with the private sector, which aims to localize the industry of various marine units in Egypt, thus enhancing the state’s efforts to consolidate the foundations of the shipbuilding and tourist yacht industry.
He directed stepping up work on maximizing the capabilities of the Suez Canal, which is globally recognized for its efficiency and capacity, even during emergency and unusual circumstances.
