Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for expediting the implementation of integrated logistical axes that connect production zones with sea ports being constructed in order to support the nation’s goals of upgrading the industrial potential and achieving overall economic development.
The directives to this effect came during a meeting Presiodent sisi called with the Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel el-Wazir.
Taking part in the meeting were the Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs, Lieutenant General Ahmed el-Shazly, the Director General of the Armed Forces National Service Projects Organisation, Major General Magdy Anwar, and the Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority, Major General Khaled Ahmed Abdulla.
The meeting was devoted to following up on the progress of works to construct, modernise and operate sea ports across Egypt, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said.
This included updates on the master plans for the Gargoub Seaport and Special Economic Zone, the Abu Qir Seaport, and the establishment of a liquid bulk terminal for petroleum product storage and blending at East Port Said. Developments regarding the operation, marketing, and maintenance of Galala Marina, as well as the redevelopment of the Berenice Seaport superstructure, were also presented, spokesman Shennawy said.
He added that the President was briefed on the projected economic returns and employment opportunities expected from these transformative projects, noting that the president directed that action to enhance the country’s network of sea ports be sustained in a manner that ensures integration with the infrastructure that had been accomplished over the past years and reinforces the country’s capacity to optimise benefiting from such infrastructure, spokesman Shennawy said.
The briefings and updates presented during themeeting also covered the status of key national transportation projects, particularly the railway and monorail systems. Updates included the construction progress of the East/West Nile Monorail, associated passenger stations, and the interconnectivity between the East Cairo Monorail and the BRT system. The East Nile Monorail is on track for inauguration in November this year.
In the same context, the implementation of the first high-speed electric train line — linking Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, El Alamein, and Matrouh — was reviewed, with a projected opening in June 2026.
Progress was also presented on the high-speed rail line connecting Salam City, 10th of Ramadan City, and the New Administrative Capital, slated for completion in March 2026. The President reiterated the critical importance of meeting all project timelines, citing their pivotal role in driving urban expansion, industrial development, and tourism promotion.
The presentations made during the session further explored opportunities for expanding industrial zones as part of Egypt’s national strategy to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities, with Lieutenant General Kamel el-Wazir outlining the state’s initiatives in the iron, steel, and cement sectors, citing ongoing developments at the Suez Steel and Arish Cement companies.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to attracting investment and forging partnerships to foster local and joint manufacturing with friendly countries. These efforts aim to downsize the import bill, meet local consumption demands, enhance export capacity, and generate new employment opportunities.
Concluding the meeting, President Sisi underscored the necessity of strict abidance byproject deadlines, conducting full review of maintenance works across road networks, and the accelerated establishment of integrated logistics hubs that seamlessly connect production zones with Egypt’s evolving port infrastructure.
The President also directed the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to attract leading global shipping lines and port operators in support of Egypt’s vision for comprehensive industrial and economic advancement, spokesman Shennawy said.
