Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for the furtherance of efforts to develop the country’s mining sector as part of the state’s drive to optimise the utilisation of the country’s mineral wealth.
The president’s call came in the course of a meeting he held with senior officials and aides on Monday to follow up the progress of action to implement the state’s plan for the development of the mineral wealth sector, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
Attending the meeting were Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Central Bank Governor Tarek Amer, Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla, Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet, Presidential Advisor on Financial Affairs Major-General Mohamed Amin, and Director of the Armed Forces National Service Projects Authority Walid Abdel Maged.
The meeting featured a review of the state’s efforts of relevance to develop the mineral wealth sector as well as the partnerships and co-operation with foreign expertise in the fields of mining and exploration for minerals, especially including gold ore.
Following that review, President Sisi gave directives for consolidating efforts to develop the country’s mining sector in complementation with the state’s strategic vision on development, Spokesman Radi said.
The president also called for full administrative and financial governance of the entire system, including the contracts with foreign partners, with a view to ensuring the ideal utilisation of the country’s natural wealth and the fine management of such resources in order to preserve the rights of the state, the spokesman said.
