Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Thursday attended the signing ceremony for the establishment of one of the largest specialized phosphate chemical industries complexes in the Middle East in the Sokhna Industrial Zone at a total cost of $1 billion.

The contract was signed between Elsewedy Industrial Development and China’s CJN, a global leader in phosphate industries.

The agreement was inked by CEO of Elsewedy Industrial Development Mohamed El-Qammah and CEO of CJN Egypt Huang Qiu Han, in the presence of Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone Walid Gamal el Dein and an official Chinese delegation.

The project will be built on an area of 905,000 square meters within the Sokhna 360 industrial city, which is developed and managed by Elsewedy Industrial Development.

It will be implemented in three consecutive phases with total investments of approximately $1 billion.

The complex is expected to provide around 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, and the majority of its production will be allocated for export to markets in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America.

The project consists of three sequential phases. The first phase will begin in 2026, with commercial operation expected in 2028. It aims at maximizing the value of Egyptian raw materials through the production of phosphoric acid and DAP and TSP fertilizers, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons for each product.

The second phase will start in 2029, with operation expected in 2031, and seeks producing high-purity specialized phosphate chemicals, such as purified phosphoric acid (PPA) in industrial and food grades and potassium dihydrogen phosphate.

The third phase will commence in 2032 and begin operations in 2034. It will expand into new energy materials industries, producing components for electric batteries, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and lithium dihydrogen phosphate. This phase will strengthen Egypt’s position as a regional hub for the production of electric battery materials.
