Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said the World Bank and its affiliated institutions are engaged in strategic partnership with the Egyptian government, represented in various ministries and government agencies.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Ousmane Dione, the Vice President of the World Bank in the Middle East and North Africa Region.
The meeting took place on the fringe of the annual meetings of joint Arab financial institutions, which he attended on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
The premier lauded technical and financial cooperation programs between the Egyptian government and the World Bank, referring to the regional cooperation program between the two sides that aims at supporting the private sector, creating jobs, building capabilities and creating resilient economy.
He commended the technical and financial support offered by the World Bank in the field of governance of the state-owned companies and promoting competitiveness.
He also extolled the support offered by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) which is a strategic partner of the government in the governmental Initial Public Offering (IPO) program.
The premier reviewed the drastic economic reform measures adopted by the government over the past period, including financial and monetary policies.
For his part, Dione expressed pride of the Egyptian-World Bank strategic partnership, stressing that Egypt is one the countries that is capable of realizing major growth rates despite of surrounding challenges.
He said the bank is prioritizing the agricultural and food security domains, noting that cooperation in this regard is quite clear under Egypt’s Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) Program.
He added that the bank is deeply interested in supporting small and medium sized enterprises in Egypt.
