He also extended his greetings and appreciation to all attendees, expressing his happiness to be among this large crowd on this special day, which marks the closing events of the fifth season of the “Egypt Electric Vehicle Rally EVER” initiative.
The premier pointed out that this rally is one of the important events in building capacities of engineers, designers, and manufacturers of electric cars from Egyptian engineering colleges’ youth.
He said, “As an engineer, I feel proud to see young engineers creating things that bring joy in such a beautiful way,” pointing out that these efforts come within the framework of implementing the state’s plan to deepen local manufacturing and develop the national industry, benefiting from the outputs of scientific research and supporting the transformation of applied research into products.
He also praised the effort exerted by the youth, thanking Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and the organizing committee from the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, and the United Media Services Company for organizing this event, wishing the youth all the best.
For his part, Ashour noted that the fifth edition of the Electric Vehicle Rally initiative continues the success of the previous editions of this event. The final event sees the participation of 43 teams from various Egyptian universities, competing in three different categories: Concept Track, Dynamic Track, and the newly added Autonomous Track category in this edition. He noted that prizes worth one million Egyptian pounds would be distributed to the winning teams in the various challenges at the final event, alongside a prize of 100,000 Egyptian pounds offered by one of the contest’s sponsors to the winning students.
Ashour explained that the Electric Vehicle Rally initiative is the first of its kind in Egypt to design and manufacture electric cars, combining the provision of technical and financial support to participating teams. It targets students of engineering faculties at Egyptian universities, aiming to create a supportive environment for the electric vehicle industry in Egypt, gather and prepare a cadre of Egyptian engineers in the field of manufacturing and developing electric vehicles, and place Egypt on the international map for participation in international competitions through an institutional system supported by the state.
Ashour added that the Electric Vehicle Rally initiative is part of efforts of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology to implement Egypt’s national strategic development vision for science and technology 2030 to support knowledge production and deepen local manufacturing.
The initiative was announced in July 2017, and the first electric vehicle rally was held in October 2018.
