CAIRO– Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, will lead Egypt’s delegation to the 24th Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), due to be held on October 9 in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
The delegation includes Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Hassan El Khatib.The summit will bring together a number of heads of state and government from COMESA member countries, along with senior officials and distinguished guests.Egypt’s participation in this year’s summit reflects the leadership’s commitment to supporting the bloc’s efforts to achieve deeper economic integration in line with the aspirations of the peoples of the region for development, progress, and prosperity.
COMESA continues to work toward boosting intra-regional trade, promoting joint investments, and strengthening the role of the private sector in achieving sustainable growth.Member states are also taking concrete steps to enhance economic linkages and foster regional cooperation and integration across Africa’s various economic groupings.The COMESA agreement contributes to expanding economic cooperation between Egypt and other member countries through joint programs and initiatives, while enabling Egyptian products to access member markets free of customs duties under the free trade area framework.Egypt is keen to further strengthen its trade and investment relations with African nations, drawing on its active membership in regional and continental economic blocs, particularly COMESA.Beyond trade, Egypt is also working to boost both national and joint investments in key sectors, such as industry, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and food industries.The country is further launching initiatives to promote industrial integration and develop regional value chains, as part of its strategic vision to deepen economic integration with COMESA member states.
