Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli has extended thanks to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for sponsoring the International Holy Quran Competition, congratulating the president on his re-election.

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa spoke on Saturday on behalf of the premier in the opening ceremony of the competition in the presence of a host of ministers, officials, ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries, lawmakers, media figures and competitors in the event.

The 5-day contest is organized at Egypt’s Islamic Cultural Center under the auspices of President Sisi with more than EGP 8 million awards.

Gomaa shed light on Awqaf Ministry’s efforts on serving Holy Quran memorizers nationwide.

He explained that the competition aims to contribute to interpreting the meanings and teachings of the Holy Quran and serving Quran memorizers.

More than 100 competitors from 64 countries participate in the competition, he added.
