Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired on Tuesday the ninth meeting of the Governors’ Council, which addressed a wide range of national and local priorities. Minister of Local Development Manal Awad attended the meeting, with governors participating via video conference.

At the outset, the prime minister underscored the importance of continuous market monitoring to ensure the availability of essential goods at official outlets and to prevent any unjustified price increases. He called for close coordination with chambers of commerce and major retail chains to expand outlets offering basic commodities at affordable prices, thereby alleviating pressure on citizens.

Madbouli also emphasised the need to adjust public transport fares in line with the recent decision of the Automatic Fuel Pricing Committee, while ensuring strict adherence to approved tariffs. He instructed governors to enforce compliance firmly and take immediate action against any violations.

Turning to the upcoming House of Representatives elections, the prime minister stressed the need for intensified preparations and full coordination among all relevant bodies, particularly with the National Elections Authority, to guarantee smooth operations and facilitate citizens’ access to polling stations,Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El-Homsany said.

On winter preparedness, Madbouli directed all governorates to ensure the full readiness of emergency and operations rooms, confirming their linkage to central command centres. He stressed verifying the availability of vacuum trucks, maintenance tools, and other necessary equipment, maintaining constant coordination with the Meteorological Authority, and reviewing weather forecasts daily to ensure timely response to any emergencies.

The prime minister also instructed Nile-front governorates to take immediate measures to remove encroachments along riverbanks, thereby preventing water-level rises and potential flooding. He reiterated the government’s firm stance against building violations and encroachments on agricultural land, particularly during the election period, affirming that no leniency or compromise would be tolerated.

He further reviewed the final preparations for the Grand Egyptian Museum’s inauguration, scheduled for November 1, describing it as a landmark global event that will highlight Egypt’s cultural and civilisational legacy. He confirmed that all concerned authorities are working around the clock to complete arrangements, finalise development of surrounding areas and access roads, and ensure the event’s success.

For her part, Minister Manal Awad reviewed her ministry’s efforts to stabilise market prices through continuous monitoring of commodity availability in collaboration with suppliers and retailers. She noted that inspection campaigns have been intensified in coordination with regulatory bodies to prevent monopolistic practices, control prices, and take legal action against violators.

Regarding rainfall and flood management during the winter season, Awad said that field committees have been formed to inspect and improve rainwater drainage systems, clear waterways, and remove obstructions in high-risk areas. She added that emergency response teams in all governorates are being trained and equipped to handle crises in co-operation with relevant ministries and agencies, including the Meteorological Authority and the National Emergency Network, to ensure rapid and coordinated responses during emergencies.
