Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired a meeting on Thursday to review progress on draft laws governing personal status affairs for Muslims and Christians, as well as the Family Support Fund bill.
The meeting, attended by Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Hany Hanna, and Minister of Justice Mahmoud El-Sherif, comes in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to swiftly refer the draft laws to parliament for discussion and approval.
The justice minister said the draft personal status law for Christians has been finalized and will soon be discussed with representatives of Egypt’s Christian denominations before being submitted to the cabinet and then parliament.
He added that the Family Support Fund bill has also been completed and is currently under review by relevant state bodies ahead of cabinet approval and referral to lawmakers.
Regarding the unified personal status law, El-Sherif noted that the government has revised the earlier draft following feedback that led to its withdrawal. A dedicated committee has since reworked the bill to address concerns and ensure consensus among stakeholders.
The government aims to expedite the submission of these laws to parliament, seeking to strengthen family stability, protect rights, and meet public expectations.
