Pursuing Egypt’s efforts to protect coastal areas and address climate change impacts, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a meeting on Tuesday in New Alamein to follow up on state projects for shoreline protection and the plan to restore Alexandria’s beaches.
The prime minister stressed that coastal protection has been a priority in recent years, with projects implemented to counter erosion and rising sea levels.
For his part, Water Resources Minister Hani Sweilem explained that safeguarding beaches is central to Egypt’s climate adaptation strategy, noting the need for advanced technologies to reduce risks and strengthen resilience.
The meeting reviewed the restoration plan for Alexandria’s 176‑km coastline, focusing on sand nourishment projects from Abu Qir to the Eastern Port. Sweilem outlined six targeted zones, including Montazah, Mandara, Sidi Bishr, Lorán, San Stefano, and Sidi Gaber, with works extending at least 50 metres to reinforce beaches against erosion.
This initiative reflects Egypt’s integrated approach to coastal protection, climate resilience, and sustainable shoreline management.
