Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired a meeting on Monday to review the implementation status of the Ain Shams University Medical City project and follow up several presidential directives related to the higher education sector.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Kansowa, Ain Shams University President Mohamed Diaa Zein El Abdeen, and Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board.
Madbouli stressed the need to accelerate work on the Medical City project in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to modernise Ain Shams University hospitals and strengthen their capacity to provide integrated healthcare services according to international standards.
Kansowa said major parts of the project have already been completed, including the upgrade of the Blood Bank building and the facades of the Women’s and Maternity Hospital, the Poison Control Centre, and the Nursing Institute.
Zein El Abdeen said the new Blood Bank includes blood donation and analysis laboratories, blood storage facilities, teaching halls, and rooms for doctors and meetings. He added that the redevelopment of Demerdash outpatient clinics will create 47 specialized clinics and a new service building.
He also said construction is underway on a nine-story Specialised Children’s Surgery Hospital with a capacity of 225 beds.
Ali El Anwar reviewed progress on the reception and emergency building, the endoscopy surgery building, and the redevelopment of the Arab Al-Muhammadi and Al-Waili gardens.
Separately, Konsowa outlined steps taken to implement several presidential directives, including developing a model for globally competitive Egyptian universities, establishing Alexandria University in New Borg El Arab City, and expanding Egyptian universities abroad through new branches of Cairo and Alexandria universities in several countries.
He also reviewed progress on the Future Skills Academy project and the 500500 Global Cancer Center, which aims to attract an international investor to manage the hospital and transform it into a global medical hub.
