Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Wednesday reviewed executive measures to resolve financial entanglements between the Ministry of Finance and the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC).
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, and senior officials from both sides.
Madbouli stressed the government’s commitment to resolving financial entanglements among ministries, public authorities and government bodies to strengthen their financial positions, improve efficiency and support the national economy.
“The issue of financial entanglements is a major priority for the government,” Madbouli said, noting that accumulated liabilities can affect the ability of government bodies to perform their roles and improve services provided to citizens.
He said the government was working to settle long-standing financial obligations, including those dating back decades, and permanently close these files.
Kouchouk said coordination was underway among state institutions as part of structural reforms aimed at resolving financial entanglements, improving the use of state assets and strengthening the financial structures and performance of public authorities.
During the meeting, Farouk reviewed the reasons behind GASC’s accumulated debt to the Finance Ministry, including regional geopolitical crises that raised the cost of importing some subsidised commodities.
The meeting also discussed a plan to settle the debt and proposed measures to resolve the financial entanglements.
Officials stressed GASC’s key role in securing essential commodities and maintaining strategic reserves to meet domestic needs, in line with presidential directives.
