Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated today the new expansion phase of Hayat Egypt for Hygienic Products, a leading Turkish manufacturer of paper tissues made from non-woven materials. The company’s latest facility is located in the Sokhna Industrial Area, within the Orascom Industrial Zones of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

The opening ceremony was attended by a distinguished delegation, including Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Housing Assem El-Gazzar, Chairman of the General Authority for the SCZone Waleed Gamal and Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen.

Prime Minister Madbouly emphasised the SCZone’s vital role as a magnet for international investments, highlighting its strategic geographic position bordering the Mediterranean and Red Seas, and its integrated industrial areas and ports.

“The SCZone aims to serve as a hub for global trade, with world-class logistics, trained technical workforce, and a national network of roads and tunnels that connect the region, stimulating development in Sinai and Canal cities,” he said. He also noted the region’s ongoing success in attracting a diverse range of foreign investments with an eye on accessing over two billion consumers through multiple free trade agreements.

Chairman of SCZone Gamal Eldien, hailed the Hayat Egypt expansion as a testament to the strength of the partnership among the company, the Economic Zone, and Orascom Industrial Zones. He affirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting investors through robust services, recently enhanced by a new Logistics Economic Zone Center “one-stop shop”, and digitised customs processes.

The new facility spans 21,000 square meters and represents a direct investment of $60 million, creating 450 new direct jobs. It boasts an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons. With the expansion, Hayat Egypt now employs approximately 650 workers at its Sokhna site, and the company’s cumulative investments in the area reach LE 3.33 billion.

Hayat Egypt’s presence in the Ain Sokhna and 6th of October industrial regions underscores its long-term commitment to the Egyptian market. The company, which began operations in Egypt in 2012, now employs around 3,500 Egyptians across facilities covering 480,000 square meters. Its product portfolio includes baby diapers, wet wipes, flexible packaging, and feminine care products. In 2024 and 2025 alone, Hayat has committed an additional $53 million each year, lifting its total investments in Egypt to $632 million.

Turkish Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen highlighted the strategic partnership between Turkey and Egypt, saying, “The continued expansion of prominent Turkish companies such as Hayat reflects the growing cooperation and mutual benefit for both countries and consumers across the region.” He expressed confidence that Turkish investment would further expand this year, with new projects worth $500 million expected, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a cornerstone in Turkey’s external development strategy.

The Ambassador also commended the competitive advantages of the Ain Sokhna port, especially its pivotal role in facilitating direct exports to Gulf and East African markets.
