Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli underlined the role of the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) in achieving development targets in Egypt, including disseminating the culture of entrepreneurship and creating new jobs.
Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting with MSMEDA CEO Basel Rahmi to follow up on the agency’s efforts over the past period and its future plans.
Rahmi said the agency managed to secure 319,100 jobs in the period from January 2023 to February 2024 in addition to offering services to about 173,000 small and micro projects.
As for the non-financial services, Rahmi said the agency held 614 training courses on entrepreneurship.
He added that the agency managed to secure 141 million pounds as grants for infrastructure, social development and training projects in the aforementioned period.
He highlighted the agency’s efforts to empower women economically and socially, noting that 45 percent of the projects backed by the agency were set up by women.
As for the presidential initiative of Decent Life for developing Egyptian villages, Rahmi said 3.1 billion pounds were injected for financing 111,000 projects that contributed to creating 202,000 jobs.
He also reviewed the agency’s efforts to fully digitize its services and activities.
Rahmi said the agency contracted with eAswaaq Misr to managed the agency’s platform.
He added that the agency is cooperating with development partners, like communications companies, to establish an interactive national platform for MSMEs.
