Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said the government has attached paramount importance to developing the cultural sector and making the best use of its resources.
He made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with Minister of Culture Jihan Zaki to review her ministry’s objectives and activities from February to April 2026, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
During the meeting, Zaki said the ministry is working to support national security by strengthening Egypt’s soft power and developing cultural institutions. She added that its programme focuses on nurturing talent and creativity, while enhancing the competitiveness of cultural systems and outputs.
Zaki also stressed the importance of developing human resources, noting that this includes reinforcing national identity, promoting positive values, and ensuring equitable access to cultural services across the country. She added that it also involves encouraging a culture of development and strengthening values linked to citizenship and social cohesion.
The minister reviewed the nationwide network of cultural facilities, including cultural centres, public and specialised libraries, mobile libraries, cinemas and theatres.
She noted that the Ministry of Culture is working to increase its resources through stronger partnerships with the private sector and civil society. Zaki highlighted ongoing efforts to develop the theatre sector, improve its revenues, and better document its productions. Plans are also under way to enhance the performance of the Cairo Opera House by making better use of its facilities and expanding co-operation with private partners, she said.
Zaki also pointed to progress in digital transformation, including the launch of several applications. These include the “Ketab” app, which offers more than 4,000 books across a range of cultural and heritage fields, as well as the “E-Sakafa” app and the “Memory of the City” application, which provides an interactive way to explore historic Cairo through detailed guides and maps of key landmarks and notable streets.
