Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Sunday opened a number of development and service projects in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

Madbouli, accompanied by a number of ministers and the governor of Alexandria, began the tour by inspecting Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company.

Madbouli inaugurated the General Soliman Ezzat Bridge connecting 45th Street with the International Coastal Road during his inspection tour in Alexandria Governorate.

Following the unveiling of the curtain, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Randa El-Minshawy emphasised that the General Soliman Ezzat Bridge is a new traffic artery extending from the heart of Alexandria to the International Coastal Road, providing effective solutions to traffic congestion in the eastern part of the city.

She noted that the project is one of the largest strategic infrastructure undertakings designed to improve traffic flow.

Governor of Alexandria Ayman Attia noted that the bridge represents a major addition to the governorate’s transport network, which aims to reduce bottlenecks by 15% to 25% in vital areas.

He indicated that the governorate plans to optimise the spaces beneath the bridge for public benefit while preventing random parking to maintain the area’s civilised appearance.

In this context, the Prime Minister directed authorities to accelerate the utilisation of these vacant spaces for sports activities, such as five-a-side football and tennis courts, in coordination with the Ministry of Housing.

During the tour, Madbouli opened the new expansion phase of the “Şahinler Egypt 2” ready-made garments manufacturing project in the industrial zone of New Borg El Arab City.

Madbouli affirmed the state’s commitment to encouraging industrial projects to expand their investments in Egypt, underscoring the business community’s confidence in the country’s investment climate and the continuous development of infrastructure, as well as the support provided to the industrial and export sectors.

For his part, Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said that the ministry is keen to promote industrial investment and attract investors across various industrial sectors, as part of efforts to advance Egyptian industry and increase the country’s industrial exports.

On the sidelines of the inauguration, the prime minister toured the factory and inspected production processes and final products.

Madbouli was briefed by General Manager of Şahinler Egyp Mahmoud Kotb on the launch of the new expansion at “Şahinler Egypt 2”, saying that it reflects the company’s commitment, under Turkey’s Şahinler Holding Group, to continuing its expansion plans and strengthening its investments in Egypt’s ready-made garments sector.

PM Madbouli also inaugurated the first phase of El-Gharably Industrial Complex for integrated engineering and steel structures in New Borg El-Arab City, Alexandria.

Madbouli stressed the importance of accelerating work in co-operation with international companies to meet domestic market needs, support national industry, and boost production capabilities in vital sectors.

The prime minister stated that steel structure projects are critical due to their pivotal role in supporting infrastructure, industry, transport, and energy sectors, thereby accelerating national development plans.

Prime Minister Madbouli also inspected work progress on the first phase of the Alexandria Metro project.

Madbouli underscored the strategic importance of the Alexandria Metro project, describing it as a major addition to the governorate’s public transportation network. He noted that the project will play a pivotal role in improving services for commuters and supporting the state’s efforts to expand modern, environmentally friendly mass transit systems.

The prime minister also stressed the need to accelerate implementation rates while maintaining the highest internationally recognised quality standards.

During the tour, Madbouli inspected the station facilities and accessed the platform via the elevator, where he received a briefing from Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir on the project’s implementation status.

El-Wazir explained that the first phase extends from Abu Qir Station to Misr Station in Alexandria over a total length of 22 kilometres and has reached an overall completion rate of 47%.

He added that the project includes a 6.5-kilometre surface section extending from Misr Station to just before El-Zahriya Station, followed by a 15.5-kilometre elevated track continuing to Abu Qir Station.
