CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli stressed on Thursday that the Egyptian government is exerting tireless efforts to provide strategic stockpiles of basic commodities so that citizens would be assured that all commodities are available in markets across the nation.

Madbouli made the statements during the inauguration of Ahlan Ramadan commodities fair that runs till March 31 at the Cairo International Convention Centre.

Supply and Internal Trade Minister Ali el-Moslehi, Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamea as well as representatives of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation took part in the inauguration ceremony.

Acting upon political directives, Madbouli said the government is keen on distributing Ramadan foodstuff cartons in coordination with different bodies concerned to help reduce the burden of hiking prices on Egyptians.

The premier chatted with several exhibitors and was assured that there are discounts on basic commodities.

Moslehi pointed out that discount rates range between 25% to 30% on basic supply commodities at the fair to secure citizens’ needs ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan when consumption usually peaks.

He added that 165 exhibitors are taking part in the fair that opens from 11:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m.
