Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Monday to review progress on updating Egypt’s subsidy and social protection systems. The session was attended by Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy and Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk.
Madbouly said the government is working on a unified social protection program that will provide targeted support to citizens in need. He explained that the program will be based on updated and verified databases to ensure accuracy and transparency. The plan is designed as a cash-based system divided into tiers according to household income. It will be flexible, allowing citizens to move between tiers as their living conditions change.
The Prime Minister stressed that this initiative reflects the state’s commitment to social protection and follows directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to balance social justice with economic sustainability.
Minister Sherif Farouk added that the cash system is one of the most modern approaches adopted worldwide to improve fairness and efficiency. He noted that it will help citizens choose according to their real needs, while also ensuring better use of state resources. The program aims to strengthen social and economic security and improve living standards in a sustainable way.
