Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa directed preparing a working plan for the coming years, which includes expanding the development and cultivation of water-efficient crops to ensure a minimum of 20 per cent savings in the water used annually in rice cultivation.
Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday to follow up on rice cultivation and innovative mechanisms to boost rice production.
The meeting was attended by Ministers Ali Moselhi of Supply, Sayyed Quseir of Agriculture and Hisham Amna of Local Development.
He underlined the importance of rice cultivation as being a strategic crop.
Quseir highlighted innovative agricultural practices to develop derivatives of rice crops that can reduce water consumption.
