Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly delivered Egypt’s statement on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the high-level virtual meeting of African heads of state and government, alongside international partners, to discuss the Ebola outbreak. The session was attended by Health Minister Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Ambassador Mohamed Gad, Assistant Foreign Minister for African Organizations and Groupings.
Madbouly conveyed President El-Sisi’s greetings and solidarity to African leaders, expressing appreciation to Burundi for convening the meeting at this critical time. He reaffirmed Egypt’s deep solidarity with affected African nations and praised frontline health workers for their extraordinary efforts under challenging conditions.
The Prime Minister stressed that Africa’s health security is indivisible, requiring a unified African-led response in close cooperation with national health authorities, the Africa CDC, and the World Health Organization. He outlined three priority areas: strengthening cross-border coordination with preventive measures, ensuring continental leadership by the African Union and Africa CDC, and securing international support for the continental preparedness and response plan.
He announced plans to send a further 30 tons of pharmaceutical and medical supplies to the Africa CDC. Egypt also stands ready to share technical expertise in surveillance, vaccine and drug development, diagnostics, and epidemic preparedness.
Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister welcomed the joint $518 million continental response plan, urging all partners to translate pledges into tangible commitments and practical support.
