Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired a meeting to address the latest developments in the crisis of deceased Egyptian pilgrims.

The meeting with a group of officials representing the ministries and bodies concerned came in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to manage the crisis and offer support to the bereft families.

This group is also tasked with standing on the cause of what happened to avoid such a tragedy in the future.

The premier said earlier that an investigation will be held with any travel agency suspected to have arranged unauthorized packages for the travel of any of the deceased pilgrims in violation of the set regulations.

Since the beginning of the crisis, the ministries of foreign affairs and emigration have been following up the situation and holding continued contacts with the Saudi side.

The premier noted that there is immediate coordination with Saudi authorities to facilitate transferring the bodies and standing on the precise number of the deceased and missing Egyptian pilgrims.

According to the Health and Population Ministry, the official number of Egyptian pilgrims stood at 50,752 and the total number of deaths is 28 which is the least compared to previous years.

However, there was no data for unregistered Egyptian pilgrims and, therefore, it was hard to follow up the health conditions of all of them.

He noted that consular working teams from the Foreign Ministry embarked on field visits of Saudi hospitals to collect data about Egyptians being treated or those dead to report to their families.
