CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli Monday chaired the first meeting of the Higher Committee for Competitive Neutrality with several ministers and senior state officials attending.
During the meeting, Madbouli asserted the state is now paying a greater attention to empowering the private sector, whether to contribute to new investments or participate in existing asset management as part of the newly-announced State Ownership Policy Document.
The promotion of competitive neutrality principle, which means that state-owned and private businesses compete on a level playing field, is a most important tool to implement the document effectively, he said.
The premier added the committee was thus formed as a first and crucial step towards fulfilling a comprehensive strategy for backing policies of competition and competitive neutrality in markets.
The matter will become a key priority to the government in the coming period, according to him.
Chairman of the Competition Protection Authority Mahmoud Momtaz said the agency is acting to consolidate competition rules by preventing any monopolistic practices in a way meant to ensure that market competition is serving the interests of people, economic entities and national economy.
The newly-established committee will be chaired by the premier.
