Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli attended on Monday the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and Scatec ASA, a Norwegian leading renewable energy company in emerging markets on kick-starting studies about the power linkage project between Egypt and Europe.
The memorandum calls for exporting renewable energy from Egypt to Europe via Italy.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker and Norwegian Ambassador to Egypt Hilde Klemetsdal.
The memorandum was co-signed by EETC Board Chairperson Sabah Mashaly and Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog.
Shaker said in statements following the signing that the memorandum is part of efforts aimed at supporting and boosting vistas of co-operation between Egypt and EU, with special focus on the energy field and renewable energy in particular.
The MoU is mainly contributing to co-operating and coordinating in exporting electrical energy to Europe via Italy, he added.
In turn, Pilskog said Scatec company will lead activities to carry out the project and will be in charge of getting the funding from international finance institutions to fulfill the project.
