Plans to digitise material of cultural interest, to preserve manuscripts and intangible cultural heritage were unveiled on Thursday at a conference in Saudi Arabia.
Egyptian Minister of Culture Nevine el-Kilani said: “This will define the priorities of each country and foster co-operation between Arab countries.”
The minister was addressing the 23rd Conference of Ministers Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Saudi capital Riyadh which she described as a “good opportunity to exchange experience to present Arab cultural heritage to the world”.
“The conference crystallises our cultural diversity and sheds light on our openness to other cultures by using modern technology and by nurturing a new creative generation,” the minister added.
El-Kilani congratulated the Arab culture ministers for registering 17 files on the list of the Committee for the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at UNESCO.
The Conference of Ministers Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World was organised by the Saudi Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Arab Organisation for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO).
