CAIRO – Planning Minister Hala el-Saeed said the inking of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on a regional programme will contribute to improving Egypt’s position in all economic, social and environmental indices.
The programme will allow Egypt to benefit from technical support offered in various domains, she said following the inking of the memo.
She expounded that the OECD laid down in 2014 regional programmes as a new tool for supporting emerging economies that carried out some economic reforms.
She added that the programme helps the selected countries to adopt the organisation’s standards as a tool for assessing reform policies and enhancing common understanding of key political challenges to address international problems.
As for the programme’s advantages, she said the programme has many advantages; it facilitates join coordination between Egypt and the organisation through an institutional framework. The programme also offers Egypt an opportunity to follow up the program realised so far in ongoing projects periodically.
She added that the program also facilitates Egypt’s participation in the organisation’s activities in addition to preparing joint studies that help following up and assessing structural reforms.
She added that the programme depends on joint action under five axes. The first axis is economic stability and promoting structural reforms; this is meant to enhance the implementation of the national programme of structural reforms drawn up by the Egyptian government. It is also meant to diversify the Egyptian economy structure, while focusing on the agricultural, industrial and communication sectors.
The second axis is meant to bolster co-operation with the organisation in the fields of technology, science and innovation, especially with regard to promoting digital transformation in Egypt and securing decent jobs in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030.
The third axis has to do with governance, combatting corruption, gender equality and disseminating the principles of transparency and good governance.
The fourth axis is meant to improve the quality of data collection and statistics using modern technology.
The fifth axis focuses on cooperation in sustainable development domains and supporting Egypt’s vision 2030 with its economic, social and environmental dimensions.
