CAIRO – Egyptian Planning and Economic Development Minister Rania al-Mashaat discussed on Sunday with headperson of the National Council for Women Amal Amar joint efforts to put into effect the national strategy for women empowerment 2030.

The minister congratulated Amar for assuming the post, saying the State attaches a special importance to empowering women through launching many initiatives including Decent Life one.

She said the initiative aims at improving living conditions of women through providing better health, housing, educational and drainage services.

Upper Egypt governorates account for 68% of the allocations for the first phase of the initiative, with the number of beneficiaries representing 61%, she said, adding that more than 70% of the investments in the first phase are directed toward human development.

Regarding the national project for the development of the Egyptian family, Mashat said this project aims to enhance efforts to improve the status of women and elevate the quality of life for Egyptian families through its comprehensive axes. The goal is to economically empower women by providing both financial and non-financial services for projects designated for them, along with training programs for employment.

She highlighted that the ministry has allocated approximately 2 billion Egyptian pounds to implement the project in collaboration the Ministries of Health and Population, Social Solidarity, and the National Council for Women. She cited some progress realized by the project, especially regarding controlling population growth rates and empowering women economically.

Mashat said initiatives addressing climate change have not overlooked the role of women, pointing out that a specific category for women-related development projects has been included in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects.

Amar lauded efforts by the Planning Ministry in women empowerment file, saying the council is successfully cooperating with the ministry to empower women as part of efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.

She referred to Tamkeen (empowerment) program that was launched by the council, the UN, the EU and the Italian and Spanish development agencies in cooperation with the Planning Ministry.

Through supporting the realization of the objectives of the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030 and Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy “Vision 2030”, the three-year program aims at achieving an accelerated progress in gender equality and at strengthening the empowerment of women in Egypt. It will further contribute to enhancing the capacities and skills of women and girls and to raising public awareness about their empowerment.

The two sides also tackled “Closing the Gender Gap Accelerator” that was launched by the ministry and the council in cooperation with the World Economic Forum to enhance State efforts in the economic empowerment of women domain.

Closing the Gender Gap Accelerator is a pioneering public-private platform aimed at fostering gender parity. This initiative focuses on increasing women’s participation in leadership roles and decision-making positions, recognising the critical role of women in driving sustainable development.
