The Egyptian petroleum sector is adopting a new strategy for social responsibility meant to attain sustainability and unify efforts, through collaboration with partners, in order to improve the living standards of the society, said Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla on Monday.
The strategy is an integral part of the petroleum sector’s strategy and represents a main pillar towards achieving and implementing the sustainable development within the framework of “Egypt’s Vision 2030”, the minister added in statements.
The axes of the new strategy entail education, training, economic development, health, gender equality, and environmental protection projects, in addition to participating in presidential initiatives such as the “Decent Life” initiative, Molla said.
He added a higher committee for social responsibility has been formed, as well as working groups comprising the ministry, petroleum authority, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and joint ventures to monitor the implementation of social responsibility plans and projects.
El Molla praised the constructive cooperation with local petroleum firms and successful partnership with foreign companies operating in Egypt, who are keen to contribute and participate in implementing various vital community projects that impact citizens.
The petroleum sector has more than 120 companies with effective contributions in its various work areas, including the Italian company ENI, which has allocated part of its resources during the development of the Zohr field, where three community development projects have been implemented in Port Said Governorate, including the establishment of a medical center serving more than 20,000 citizens, a training center for developing youth skills, and Zohr School of Applied Technology in the governorate.
