CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Mulla and Chief Sustainability Officer at General Electric (GE) Roger Martella probed Saturday aspects of mutual co-operation regarding the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC Egypt will host in November.
During their meeting, the officials discussed coordination in sustainability issues and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in light of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) the ministry signed with the global company at EGYPS oil, gas and energy conference and exhibition in February, according to a statement released by the ministry.
Mulla highlighted the importance of the ministry’s recently concluded partnerships and agreements with major global companies, such as GE, to capitalise on their expertise and technologies, with a view to strengthening the sector’s capability and determining the best ways for achieving sustainability at oil and gas facilities, reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring sustainable production of fossil fuels.
He added that coordination is underway with top international companies, experienced in energy technologies and sustainability solutions by organising workshops that seek to come up with the best initiatives and project ideas that could help achieve these goals.
