CAIRO – Egyptian Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi discussed with Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council Angela Wilkinson means of boosting bilateral co-operation.
The Petroleum Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the meeting took up the key role played by the Council in backing the global energy industry.
During the meeting, Wilkinson said that the Council is the oldest global platform concerned with energy, it was created 100 years ago, noting that the Council supports energy transition initiatives.
Wilkinson said that the Council was the first to launch the term “Energy Trilemma”, adding that the energy transition should be carried out in a fair and equitable manner, along with paying attention to the issue of climate change adaptation.
The Council has a large research center in the fields of energy, and provides training and development programs for young leaders and women in various energy domains, he added.
The World Energy Council is a global forum for thought-leadership and tangible engagement with headquarters in London.
Its mission is “To promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people”.
The idea for the foundation of the Council came from Daniel Nicol Dunlop in the 1920s.
