CAIRO– Egyptian Petroleum Minister Tareq el-Molla met Wednesday with Global Director for the World Bank’s Energy and Extractives Global Practice Demetrios Papathanasiou to discuss regional activities and energy transformation.
Molla praised efforts exerted by Egypt to maximise benefit from production and achieve integration with countries in the East Mediterranean region.
Work is also underway, in Egypt and the region, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as suggested by initiatives during the international climate summit COP27, the minister said.
Molla pressed for close cooperation between the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) and the World Bank to implement long-term strategies.
Papathanasiou, for his part, stressed World Bank support for efforts exerted by Egypt and the EMGF, especially where energy transformation and environment protection are concerned.
The World Bank is also willing to offer all kind of support for mining activities in Egypt, he noted.
