Petroleum Minister Tareq Molla said the state – under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi – is keen on giving a top priority to empowering Egyptian women in all fields and sectors.
He added that women represent 25 per cent of the government’s portfolios, 27 per cent of deputy ministers, 28 per cent of the House of Representatives, 31 per cent of deputy governors and 14 per cent of the Senate.
The minister made the remarks during a celebration marking women’s role in the petroleum and natural gas industry on the International Women’s Day.
The celebration is organised for the second year by Egypt Oil & Gas.
He said women empowerment witnessed unprecedented development under the rule of President Sisi as women assumed several important positions.
He hailed women’s role in the petroleum and gas sectors, stressing that the ministry would continue with several initiatives and partnerships to promote gender equality.
