Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Tarek el Mulla asserted the importance of the role of fertilizers in industry, agriculture and the economy as shown in the current challenges and geopolitical and environmental circumstances witnessed around the world and the unprecedented leap in prices.
This came in Mulla’s speech on Tuesday during the inauguration of the 30th international annual conference of the Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA), held on February 27-29.
Egypt and the Arab countries have important potentials that enable them to increase the capacity of manufacturing fertilizers, he said, adding that Egypt has 10 distinguished factories affiliated to the state and the private sector.
Mulla asserted the importance of being ready to deal with the UN decision to apply taxes of carbon on a number of the Egyptian industrial sectors, topped by iron and steel, cement, aluminum and fertilizers as of January 2026.
