Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep appreciation for the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, commending Egypt’s constructive role in supporting de-escalation and strengthening regional security and stability.

He also praised the efforts undertaken by the Republic of Türkiye under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the same context.

The remarks were made as the Pakistani prime minister received, on Sunday, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aati, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The two ministers were in Pakistan to participate in a quadrilateral ministerial meeting involving Egypt, Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, represented by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The meeting focused on efforts to de-escalate regional tensions linked to the escalating situation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

Discussions centred on the rapidly evolving security situation in the region and ongoing efforts to contain the crisis and reinforce regional stability.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, said in a statement that the participants emphasised the importance of leveraging their collective capabilities to reduce tensions, end ongoing conflicts, and coordinate efforts to prevent further deterioration of the regional security environment.

The ministers also reviewed ongoing diplomatic initiatives and intensive contacts with regional and international stakeholders aimed at creating conditions conducive to opening channels for direct negotiations between Iran and the United States, with emphasis on prioritising dialogue and diplomatic solutions.

The meeting further addressed broader regional developments, including the Palestinian issue as a central element of regional instability.

It also discussed efforts related to the implementation of the second phase of the United States’ proposed plan, developments in the Horn of Africa, concerns over potential Israeli recognition of Somaliland, as well as the situation in South Asia, including developments in Afghanistan.
