The Commander of the Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Ashraf Ibrahim Atwa, has highlighted the support that the political leadership and the Armed Forces General Command give to the upgrading of the Navy’s infrastructure and modernising its combat capabilities.
‎‏Speaking to a press conference at the Naval Forces headquarters in Ras Al-Tin, Alexandria, on Sunday, marking the 57th Navy Day, Vice Admiral Atwa said that such support aims to enable the Navy to operate on all strategic directions simultaneously to maintain naval security and safeguard the interests of the state.
‎‏The Navy Day is celebrated on October 21st every year in commemoration of sinking of the Eilat destroyer on this day in the year 1967 – an event that Admiral Atwa described as one of the Egyptian Navy’s greatest victories that evidenced the strength and determination of the Navy’s personnel and served as a prelude to momentous victory of October 6, 1973.
‎‏Admiral Atwa pointed out to the continued support from the political leadership and the General Command of the Armed Forces in enhancing the Navy’s infrastructure and upgrading its combat capabilities. This upgrade includes the acquisition of up-to-date naval vessels of various types, as well as the upgrading of training techniques and methods.
‎‏These developments position the Egyptian Navy among the world’s leading naval forces, enabling it to operate across all strategic fronts simultaneously, ensuring maritime security, and protecting Egypt’s national interests.
‎‏Admiral Atwa congratulated the Navy’s officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, and civilian employees on the occasion of Navy Day and thanked them for their dedication and service to their homeland Egypt, the heart of the Arab world. On this day, he added, Navy personnel renew the pledge to continue fulfilling their tasks in safeguarding the nation’s security and sea borders, rich with national potentials and resources.
