Egypt’s Minister of Oil and Mineral Wealth Tarek El Molla conferred on Monday with EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson on the plans of the Egyptian oil sector to expand the inspection and exploration of natural gas resources and development of its production, distribution to houses as well as technical support programs of the oil cadres.
The meeting was held on the fringe of the EU’s commissioner participation in Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2023) which opened Sunday under the slogan “North Africa and the Mediterranean: Supporting Sustainable Global Energy Supply and Demand”.
In statements following the meeting, Kadri asserted the depth of cooperation and ties with the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Wealth, noting that a trilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between Egypt, EU and Israel to secure Europe’s needs of natural gas through the East Mediterranean gas supplies. She also noted that the MOU, that was effective on the period of 2018-2022, has achieved its objectives.
Meanwhile, Molla welcomed the participation of the EU commission in the three-day EGYPS 2023, asserting that this conference and exhibition has greatly contributed to the energy sector and praised cooperation and mutual understanding with the European Commission.
He also said the meeting took up projects of carbon reduction, methane reduction plans as well as technical support to the Egyptian oil sector along with the transition to new and renewable energy. Molla also underlined the importance of cooperation with the European side in light of the rapid changes facing the energy market.
