Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli met with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Molla to follow up on the executive position of the national initiative to expand the conversion of cars to run on compressed natural gas as fuel, and the initiative’s work plans during the coming period.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to expand the initiative to convert cars to run on natural gas, in a way that maximizes economic and environmental returns, as well as the need for continuous coordination to achieve the goals of this initiative, in light of the increasing global interest in environmental sustainability.
During the meeting, el-Molla reviewed the initiative’s position and the development in the rates of converting cars to run on gas, in light of the various facilities and systems for installments for converting cars to run on gas, which were launched last October, so that the installment period for the conversion cost was extended for two years instead of one year, confirming an increase in total automobile gas sales.
El-Molla explained that the recent facilitations, through increasing the installment period, represented an important incentive for citizens, especially in light of the spread of car gas filling stations in all governorates. He also pointed to the developments in the digitization of the system of monitoring and disseminating the transport, trade, and circulation of vehicle gas, as well as plans to intensify car conversion operations and raising their rates during the coming period – until June 2026 – and providing the necessary components and financing for them.
The Minister touched on the economic and environmental returns resulting from the initiative to convert cars to run on compressed natural gas as fuel, and the resulting reduction in gasoline burning emissions, compared to traditional fuel.
El-Mollaalso reviewed the ministry’s efforts and work plans during the coming period, the mechanisms for implementing the national green hydrogen strategy, hydrogen production scenarios, as well as the projects of the new strategy for social responsibility, recently launched by the ministry. The strategy aims at supporting and increasing contribution to community development, especially in the most vulnerable areas.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister affirmed full support for efforts to expand the conversion of cars to run on natural gas, indicating that work will be done to overcome any obstacles or challenges that may face this important project.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Madbouli lauded the important role of the sector of communications and information technology to improve all other sectors and achieve the dimensions of sustainable development in Egypt.
This came during Madbouli’s meeting with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat to review some work files of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
Talaat reviewed the efforts exerted by the ministry to improve the promising sector of technology in Egypt, pointing out that the ministry is keen on developing the strategies and visions in accordance with the national goals related to empowering the private sector and developing human abilities in addition to boosting international cooperation to exchange expertise.
During the meeting, Talaat asserted that the first the stage of the “national strategy for artificial intelligence” is about to end, adding that the second stage is being prepared to cope with the accelerating developments in the field of communications and information technology.
The ministry inked, in December, memorandums of understanding with 30 international and local companies to building the digital abilities of the youth working in the Digital Egypt Generations (DEG) initiatives, he said.
