CAIRO – The National Authority for Social Insurance (NOSI) is ready to raise pensions by 15 percent as of April 1 under directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during his visit to Minya Thursday, NOSI Chairman Gamal Awad told MENA.

A central operations room is formed to follow up on the process, which is expected to go smoothly due to the recent technical updates, he added.

Every citizen who receives a pension from NOSI will benefit from the president’s decision, Awad affirmed.

The authority will issue a statement to clarify the details later, he added.

Awad thanked President Sisi for the decision that was greatly welcomed by pensioners.

Sisi also ordered raising the minimum wage for government employees to EGP 3,500, starting April 1, as part of a wide-ranging social package to alleviate the ramifications of the global economic situation.

The President also announced raising tax exemptions from EGP 24,000 to EGP 30,000 annually, as well as increasing Takaful and Karama benefits by 25 percent, effective April 1.
