Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that any infringement of Egypt’s share of the Nile water is a “red line, and no one can cross it,” warning that any violation in this regard will affect the stability of the entire region.”No one can take a drop of water from Egypt,” he added regarding the continued deadlock in the negotiations with Ethiopia over the disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Addressing a press conference, which was held at the premises of the Suez Canal Authority in Ismailia Tuesday, President Sisi said, “No one can violate that right and whoever wants to do that can show us what they can do and this is not a threat to anyone, but an affirmation of our right to water.”
The president said, “Our battle is a battle of negotiation, and the coming weeks will witness moves in this direction.”
“All our demands fall within international laws that deal with the issues of transboundary waters,” he stressed.
“We hope to reach a binding, legal agreement on the filling and operation of the dam,” he added.
