Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, affirmed on Sunday that expanding the use of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies represents a key pillar of the ministry’s strategy to double Egypt’s crude oil production and achieve the targets of its five-year development plan.
The remarks were made during an inspection tour of the Badr El-Din Petroleum Company fields in the Western Desert, which included an extensive workshop attended by leaders of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and production and service companies.
During the tour, Minister Badawi stated that the ministry has successfully established the infrastructure required to support the wider deployment of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies, which have proven effective in maximising well productivity and increasing crude oil output.
He praised the joint efforts of EGPC and its partners in developing innovative economic models that support higher investment and production rates, stressing that these initiatives contribute to creating a competitive and attractive investment environment.
The minister also witnessed hydraulic fracturing operations at a newly discovered well in the Badr 15 area.Chairman of Badr El-Din Petroleum Company, Khaled Abdel Salam, stated that the well is expected to add around 15 billion cubic feet of natural gas to reserves, with production scheduled to begin by the end of the month at approximately 15 million cubic feet of gas per day, in addition to 500 barrels per day of condensates.
He also reviewed the company’s achievements during the current fiscal year, noting that 40 successful hydraulic fracturing operations had increased production by more than 10,000 barrels of oil per day and over 15 million cubic feet of gas per day through the application of advanced international technologies.
