Chairman of the Chairman of the National Press Authority (NPA) Abdel Sadek el-Shorbagy, and Head of the Journalists Syndicate Khaled el-Balshy have probed means of co-operation between two sides to  support national journalism and improve journalists conditions.

The two sides agreed to develop a new vision with the goal of advancing the role of national journalism.

They also asserted that such vision is a part of a general plan that aims to consolidate the role of the Egyptian press as a soft power by promoting the capabilities of press institutions and journalists.

Theynoted that a committee will be formed from the NPA and the Syndicate to follow up implementation of the meeting’s outcomes.

The meeting concluded with an agreement between the two sides to work on developing the journalistic content to reflect the diversity of views in society, expanding specialised journalism and revitalising existing newspapers.

The two parties also agreed to open the door for appointing temporary journalists, administrators and workers in monthly batches starting in September, according to  regulations set by the Authority and the Syndicate.

The NPAChairman ElShorbagysaid that the authority’s decision to appoint temporary staff at national press institutions aims to create a stable work environment for employees at these facilities’.

The two sides also agreed on the necessity of developing the advertising system within the national press institutions through communicating with various state agencies.

El Balshiinvited the NPAChaiefand the Editors-in-Chief of national newspapers to participate in the activities the 6th  Journalists Conference, slated for October.

Broad participation in the conference’s activities is the beginning of the road to reviving journalism by benefiting from the experiences of its members with their diverse backgrounds and views, the Syndicate Chief said.
