Egypt has already manufactured new five million Sinopharm anti-Covid vaccine doses, 2.5 million of which will soon be released, Minister of Health Hala Zayed told a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Wednesday.
Reviewing the developments of the pandemic and the vaccination pace, both on the global and the local scenes, Zayed added that two million jabs will be released on weekly basis.
Work is under way to add a new vaccine production line to be operated as of November, with a daily capacity of 300,000, she revealed.
Minister Zayed reviewed the executive situation of the vaccination process across Egypt, including the state administrative body and the Ministry of Education, saying that 13 million people have been vaccinated nationwide.
According to the Health Minister, up to 584,000 jabs were provided for people planning to travel abroad.
The minister tackled the latest mechanisms adopted to register people for vaccination. Part of this, an awareness campaign has been planned in coordination with the various governorates to encourage people to get the vaccines, and set a vaccination timetable till the end of the year.
Reviewing the vaccination plan for September, Zayed said that starting from the 11th till the end of the month, Egypt is receiving a total of 17 jabs of AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharma, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sputnik, and Pfizer, in addition to the five million locally-produced of Sinopharm jabs. Other 100,000 to 250,000 AstraZeneca doses are also expected as a donation.
Meanwhile, the minister said the total storage of medical oxygen nationwide has hit 3.380 million litres.
For his part, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdul Ghaffar, told the cabinet meeting that there are 290 affiliated vaccination centres in 60 universities. He added that until Tuesday, to to 304.432 jabs were given, for both the students and the teaching and administrative staff.
