Ministers of industry, local development, environment, agriculture, and planning agreed on Thursday to proceed with a new initiative to transform rural villages into hubs of production.
The plan builds on the presidential “Hayah Karima” (Decent Life) initiative, aiming to sustain its impact by creating jobs and supporting small industries.
Pilot projects will begin in two villages, Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said.
Food and textile industries will be the first focus, chosen for their low environmental impact and ability to employ women, the minister added, noting that small enterprises in villageswill be linked to larger factories through the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI).
For her part, Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad stressed the importance of building on each village’s competitive edge. She pointed to financing options through soft loans for women and youth, using the Local Development Fund and “Mashroak” (Your project) initiative.
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk announced the shift from planning to execution.
Ministry assets in the provinces will be exploited to establish economic projects, with support from the Agricultural Research Center and development partners, the minister said.
Farouk highlighted training programs inspired by international models, including Italy’s agro-processing experience.
Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom emphasised coordination among ministries. He said training for small and micro enterprises will be provided through the ministry’s Entrepreneurship Center, in cooperation with the SME Development Agency and international organisations such as FAO.
Officials agreed the project will help villages move from consumption to sustainable production, creating real opportunities for youth and women while strengthening Egypt’s rural economy.
