Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelaziz Konsowa, announced on Tuesday that the ministry has begun compiling a database of outstanding projects developed at Egyptian universities.
He noted that some of these projects have already entered the implementation stage in cooperation with government bodies and ministries.
Konsowa said the ministry’s objective extends beyond producing successful projects, as it aims also to inspire students and strengthen their confidence by demonstrating that innovative ideas can be transformed into practical initiatives that serve society and support national development.
The minister revealed that the ministry will launch additional funding programmes three to four times annually to support student innovations. The schemes will be open to both graduation projects and ideas developed by students whose academic programmes do not require a graduation project.
He stressed that all serious proposals will be eligible to compete for funding opportunities.
As part of this effort, the ministry is working to establish an integrated ecosystem of technology valleys and innovation incubators to support promising projects and help transform them into commercially viable products. The initiative aims to increase projects’ technological readiness levels, enabling them to progress from development stages to production and market deployment.
Konsowa emphasised that funding will not be a barrier to implementing the ministry’s vision, citing available financial resources within the Ministry of Higher Education as well as through partnerships with a range of institutions.
He noted that the key challenge lies in identifying projects with strong implementation potential and directing financial support towards initiatives that address Egypt’s development priorities.
