The Arab Tourism Organisation has announced the selection of New Alamein as the Capital of Arab Resorts for 2025.
This recognition comes as a result of the city’s successful compliance with a set of rigorous criteria, including effective management and organisation, advanced infrastructure, recreational resources, commitment to environmental preservation, safety standards, and adaptable response to tourism developments.
Nestled on Egypt’s northwestern Mediterranean shore, New Alamein is a fourth-generation city, inaugurated in March 2018 by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The city is situated about 48 kilometers west-northwest of El Alamein International Airport, positioning it conveniently for both domestic and international visitors.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, this prestigious selection underscores New Alamein’s rapid urban and tourism development, unique natural landscapes, and modern amenities, making it one of the leading coastal destinations within the Arab world. The city stands out for its blend of cultural and entertainment activities, world-class hotel facilities, and its ability to host major events and festivals, particularly during the vibrant summer season.
Expressing his gratitude and pride, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy emphasized that New Alamein’s win reflects the government’s forward-thinking approach to developing coastal cities.
He highlighted the city’s commitment to sustainable development and quality tourism, promising a rich calendar of cultural, artistic, and entertainment events throughout 2025. These initiatives aim to attract more visitors and elevate the standard of services offered to tourists from across the Arab world.
The Arab Tourism Organisation annually designates a city that excels in beach tourism and resort offerings, encouraging healthy competition and the sharing of best practices in tourism across the region. In previous years, recipient cities consistently reported an uptick in tourist arrivals, further testament to the positive impact of this recognition.
