Netherlands Climate Envoy Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme praised relations between his country and Egypt especially in the fields of water and food, asserting that Egypt has a big chance to turn into an international hub for the production of green energy.
The Dutch envoy’s remarks were made during his meeting with a number of diplomatic editors on the occasion of his current visit to Egypt.
The envoy described relations between Egypt and Netherlands as “distinguished” and characterized with mutual trust.
He also asserted Egypt’s influential role all over its history, adding that Cairo hosting of the UN Climate Conference (COP27) would provide a chance for more cooperation with Egypt over climate-related issues.
The Dutch envoy also his country is deeply excited for participating in this conference in view of the vital issues it will discuss.
The envoy said he held a number of meetings with senior officials in the Egyptian ministries of foreign affairs, the water resources and irrigation, electricity, environment and others concerned with the climate issues as part of coordination between the two sides over the issues tabled on the agenda of COP27.
Commenting on the impact of Ukraine war and the world food crisis on the upcoming climate conference, de Bourbon said the war has affected all world countries especially the energy and food prices. He said there is a direct relation between food prices and the rise in fertilizers’ prices which is mainly depending on energy to be manufactured.
He also said COP27 will discuss the impact of climate change on the food production in many parts of the world especially the areas where agricultural produce has been greatly harmed due to temperature increase.
The Dutch envoy voiced hope over reaching technical solutions to all issues tabled on the agenda of COP27 especially water scarcity and food security all over the world.
He also hoped that COP27 conference would reach out to agreements that comply with the principles of the international plan for climate along with guaranteeing climate funding especially the countries which are mostly affected by global warming.
