The presidential elections in Egypt will be held on December 10-12, the Head of the National Elections Authority (NEA), Justice Waleed Hamza, announced on Monday. Voting for Egyptian nationals living abroad will take place on December 1-3, he added.
Should there be a run-off, January 8-10, 2024 has been set as a date for local voting and Jan. 5-7, 2024 for expatriates, Justice Hamza said.
Final results of the elections will be announced on December 18 and be published in the country’s official chronicler, the NEA chief said. In the event of a run-off, he said, the final results would be announced on January 16 at most.
The authority, he said, has decreed the formation of a committee to look into complaints and has drafted the standards for conducting public opinion polls.
In the meantime, the Elections Authority has received application from local and foreign civil society organisations as well as from some newspaper establishments, media organisation and online news outlets for registration in the authority’s database, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
