CAIRO – The National Council for Women (NCW) expressed on Thursday anger over the offending tweet posted by actor Amr Waked against Egyptian women.
In a statement, chairperson Maya Morsi said the hotline of the office received a number of complaints by women protesting Waked’s tweet and considering it an insult to all Egyptian women.
Consequently, the council filed an official complaint with the prosecutor general’s office and sent an official letter to Twitter platform to close Waked account.
Morsi expressed deep appreciation for all Egyptian women, saying women in Egypt are respected and admired by all generations.
Though Waked deleted the offending tweet and apologised for what he has said, it is still unacceptable what he has done and must be held accountable, she added.
